Mental illness, substance abuse driving New Mexico’s high maternal mortality, new data shows
Mental illness, particularly substance abuse, was the biggest contributing factor to 74 pregnancy-related deaths of New Mexico mothers between 2018 and 2023, according to new data presented to a legislative health committee. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, New Mexico’s maternal mortality rate is well above the national average.
New Mexico insurers refused to renew policies for record number of homes in 2025, official says
More than 6,200 New Mexico homeowners lost insurance after companies opted not to renew policies in 2025, according to Insurance Superintendent Alice Kane, which marks a new record after years of rising non-renewals.
Former New Mexico AG says federal prosecutors haven’t honored Epstein investigation agreement
Federal prosecutors investigating the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein “to this day” have not upheld an agreement to share New Mexico-related materials with the state’s top law enforcement agency, former New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas wrote in a Monday letter to Attorney General Raúl Torrez.
